Citation :: On May 18, 2004 at 18:01 Cornelius & Gilead Fire Departments were dispatched to a boathouse on fire with a boat inside. When Engine 4 checked enroute from Station 2 they advised heavy smoke was visible from the station. While enroute Central dispatch advised that the fire was actually a Sea Doo in the water. Units arrived on scene and confirmed the fire about seventy five yards off shore. The boat drifted towards a dock and Engine 3's crew prepared to put the fire out before it got to the dock. Before hitting shore the Sea Doo sank spreading burn gas all over the water. The fire burned its self out and Gilead Fireboat 1 assisted with getting the watercraft out of the water. Units stayed on scene for approximately one hour.
